Brussels – A new drug strategy presented today by the European Commission aims to motivate pharmaceutical companies to distribute drugs to all countries of the European Union, speed up the approval of new preparations or prevent shortages of important medications. In its framework, the Union executive proposes to introduce a flexible period of market protection of drugs depending on their contribution to the entire Union or to establish a list of critical drugs, the stocks of which will be monitored in detail.

The Commission emphasizes that the plan will not interfere with the powers of member countries to set drug prices, nor will it limit the possibilities of companies to come up with financially demanding innovations.
