The European Parliament recognized the unsatisfactory draft multi-year EU budget

Европарламент признал неудовлетворительным проект многолетнего бюджета ЕС

The budget was supposed to 2021-27 year

The European Parliament rejected the proposed European Council the draft multi-year EU budget for 2021-27 year, declaring it unsatisfactory. About it reports RBC-Ukraine with reference to the press service of the European Parliament.

The President of the European Parliament David Sassòli noted that the budget proposal is very far from what is needed for adequate funding of the old and new EU programmes.

“The numbers are not very different from the indicators suggested by the previous Finnish presidency of the EU in respect of which the European Parliament by an overwhelming majority have clearly expressed their opposition,” said Sassòli.

He noted that the proposals are contrary to the stated ambitions in three priority areas, which are themselves member countries, not the European Parliament, has put the spotlight on: climate, digital development and strengthening of geopolitical positions of the EU.

According to Sassòli, the proposals not only pose risks to achieve their certain goals of the EU, but also increase the probability of lagging behind China and the United States.

Earlier it was reported that the European Parliament and representatives of the 28 member countries of the European Union on November 18 reached an agreement on the EU budget for 2020. Revenues will be 168,7 billion euros, 1.5% more compared to the 2019 year.

RBC-Ukra wrote that after the British exit from the EU, the EU budget will be a shortage of 16.5 billion euros. In this case, before the end of 2020, Germany alone will be charged to the EU budget of up to 4.2 billion euros.
