The festival started on Thursday symbolically on Children's Day. The interest of schools and the public in the film screenings and the accompanying program was great. This year, the event offered 295 films from 50 countries, including world premieres. On the occasion of Břetislav Pojar's 100th birthday, the festival also commemorated the work of Czech and Czechoslovakian animators. He also focused on teenagers, offering them a film and accompanying program, including a new section of European web series for young audiences. The Zlín Festival is the largest and oldest festival of its kind in the world.
This year's Young Stars of the festival, i.e. young and promising actors, were Antonie Formanová and Vojtěch Vodochodský. Actors Tereza Ramba and Jan Cina have new stars on the Walk of Fame in front of the Velký Kine in Zlín.
