Prague – The festival in Karlovy Vary from June 30 to July 8 will offer 31 films in the main program. There is one less film in the main competition compared to the original number, because the producers of the Chinese participant in the competition had to withdraw their film at the behest of the Chinese government. The audience will also not see any Russian-produced films this year. The artistic director of the festival, Karel Och, informed the journalists about it.
“The withdrawal of the Chinese film was explained to us by the deterioration of relations between China and the Czech Republic, so no Chinese film must be shown within the Czech Republic, including the Karlovy Vary festival,” said ČTK Och.
Domestic cinematography will see in the main double representation competition, the period detective drama Úsvit by director Matěj Chlupaček will be presented in world premieres, as well as the adaptation of the book of the same name by Jáchym Topol, Citilvý úvěk, the first feature film by director Tomáš Klein.
At the opening concert of the film festival in Karlovy Vary, 30 will play June British band Morcheeba. Actor Russell Crowe with his band Indoor Garden Party and singer Vojtěch Dyk with his original project D.Y.K. will also perform.
The festival organizers have already announced that actor and director Crowe will receive the Crystal Globe for outstanding artistic contribution to world cinema. The next recipient will be the Czech actress Daniela Kolářová, who will receive the President's Award of the Karlovy Vary Film Festival.
