Prague – Two of its former winners, midfielder Tomáš Souček and defender of the championship, striker Patrik Schick, are not missing from the shortlist for the award in the Footballer of the Year 2022 poll. The five-man final selection is completed by midfielder Antonín Barák, offensive all-rounder Adam Hložek and goalkeeper Jindřich Staněk. The winner will be announced on Monday. The organizer of the poll, the Football Association of the Czech Republic (FAČR), announced the composition of the top five in a press release.

The order was decided by the members of the football academy, which includes first league coaches, first league team captains, representatives with at least 31 starts in the national team, winners of previous years, representatives of the media and FAČR.

Closest to the final five was defender Vladimír Coufal, who took sixth place. His club mate from West Ham and national team captain Souček can be the best Czech player of the year for the third time. He dominated the poll in 2019 and 2020.

This time, however, he is not one of the biggest favorites, just like defender Schick, who became the second best scorer in the German league last spring, but did not do so well in terms of goals in the fall. At the end of the year, he was also slowed down by an injury.

Schick's clubmate from Leverkusen Hložek also figures in the top five, who only took a stronger form at the German club at the beginning of this year. The fourth place in the 2017 poll can be improved by Fiorentina midfielder Barák.

However, the biggest favorite is the Pilsen goalkeeper Jindřich Staněk, who last spring helped Viktoria to an unexpected league title with his performances and in the fall to advance from the qualification to the Champions League group. Tomáš Vaclík was the last goalkeeper to triumph in 2018.

Michal Bílek, who last year led Pilsen to the title and into the group of the Champions League, is not missing from the final trio of coaches. He is joined by Jindřich Trpišovský from Slavia Prague and Martin Svědík, who with Slovácko achieved a triumph in the domestic cup and a historic promotion to the group of the European Conference League.

Two former winners of the poll, defender Andrea Stašková, made it to the final three among women and Kateřina Svitková and with them goalkeeper Olivia Lukášová. In the three-member nomination for Talent of the Year, Spartans Kryštof Daněk and Martin Vitík and Brno's Michal Ševčík.

The Hall of Fame will also receive a new member or members. The winners of the polls will be announced in a ceremony on Monday evening at the Prague Hilton Hotel.
