Prague – Between 2023 and 2027, the government will give 110 million crowns a year to support beekeeping. Half of this money will come from the European budget, the rest from the Czech state budget, Minister of Agriculture Zdeněk Nekula (KDU-ČSL) told journalists after the government meeting. The cabinet approved the relevant regulation today.

Support will be linked to projects in six different areas. It will be training for beekeepers, investments in tangible assets, the fight against bee colony diseases, rationalization of migration of bee colonies, breeding work and analysis of bee products, said Nekula.
For investments in tangible assets, the maximum amount of subsidy is 150,000 crowns, the beekeeper's financial contribution must be 20 percent, the Ministry of Agriculture said in a press release. For subsidies against bee diseases, the co-payment will be 50 percent. The subsidy to support the migration of bees will be a maximum of 200,000 crowns with a co-payment of 20 percent.
“Beekeeping is absolutely key for the development of agriculture and for a good environment in general. We must provide it with all the support that beekeepers can get for their work modern equipment and also to attract the younger generation to beekeeping and thus ensure the continuation of the industry,” said Nekula.
According to information from the Ministry of Agriculture, there are approximately 66,000 beekeepers in the Czech Republic who take care of more than 716,000 bee colonies.
