Prague – Today, the Czech currency strengthened slightly against the euro and weakened against the dollar. At 17:00, the koruna strengthened against the euro by three pennies to 23.69 CZK/EUR against the previous close, while against the dollar it weakened by 11 pennies to 22.29 CZK/USD. This follows from data on the Patria Online server. Today, the Prague Stock Exchange erased its Tuesday gain, the PX index fell by 0.88 pct to 1376.52 points.

“The strengthening of the koruna was in line with the sharp increase in positive sentiment on risky stock indices,” said Purple Trading analyst Jaroslav Tupý regarding the development of the koruna exchange rate against the euro. The koruna thus again approached a record high level. Already at the end of January, it reached the strongest position against the euro since the fall of 2008. Subsequently, it repeatedly improved the record and a week ago it recorded the strongest level against the euro since the end of July 2008, when the exchange rate fell to 23.64 CZK/EUR.

The Prague Stock Exchange erased its Tuesday gain today, when the PX index fell by 0.88 percent to 1376.52 points. Bank shares were dragged down by the stock exchanges, the most significant decline by more than 2.5 percent was experienced by Erste Bank. The securities of the energy company ČEZ grew. “The PX index stayed in the red for practically the entire day, gradually deepening its losses and ending up near the daily minimum,” described trading by Fio bank's broker David Brzek. The Prague Stock Exchange turned negative under the influence of continued profit-taking in banking securities, noted broker Wood & Company Vladimír Vávra.

Of the bank issues, Moneta Money Bank fell by 0.82 percent to 84.30 crowns, Komerční banka by 0.94 percent to 734 crowns and Erste Bank by 2.54 percent to 822 crowns . “There was no specific corporate news behind Erste's decline,” said Brzek.

The securities of the insurance company VIG surrendered 1.17 percent to 593 crowns. “At the end of the trading day, the company published information on the preliminary result for 2022, which is at the level of net profit significantly above the market estimate,” mentioned Brzek.

CEZ shares rose by 0.40 percent to 999 crowns. “They strengthened for the second day in a row, when they continued to return to levels around 1,000 crowns per share,” Vávra pointed out.

According to Brzek, the improved performance of the last few weeks was confirmed by the securities of the tobacco company Philip Morris, which rose by 0 today .69 percent to CZK 17,440. “The exchange rate reached new post-dividend highs,” pointed out Brzek.
