LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Lakers won even without the injured LeBron James already the seventh game out of the last ten and improved to ninth place in the Western Conference standings. They beat Memphis 112-103 on Tuesday in a game that saw the club retire Pau Gasol's jersey. Steph Curry's 10 three-pointers and 40 points were not enough for Golden State, and the Warriors lost to Oklahoma City 128-137.

Gasol, who ended his career as a Barcelona player the year before, came to the Lakers in 2008 from Memphis and immediately played in the finals with the team and then won two titles (2009, 2010). He did it alongside the tragically deceased Kobe Bryant, their jerseys now hang side by side from the ceiling of the hall: Gasol's sixteen and Bryant's numbers 8 and 24.

“It's been an honor to wear a Lakers jersey, to be in this organization and to play for this team. I never in a million years would have believed that something like this would happen, but you can never say never. Instead, you have to work hard and try to be the best you can be every day you can be,” Gasol said emotionally during the halftime celebration, which was attended by Bryant's wife and children.

They also watched the Lakers win over Memphis. In the absence of James, D'Angelo Russell and Mohamed Bamba, especially Anthony Davis shone with 30 points and 22 rebounds. The Lakers held the Grizzlies, playing without Ja Morant, to just 39 percent shooting.

Even Curry's 40 points were not enough for Golden State against Oklahoma, which was led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's thirty-three points to win over the reigning champion. Josh Giddey also had a big game, having his seventh triple double of his career and third of the season with 17 points, 11 rebounds and a personal best 17 assists. “When teammates are hitting shots, it's pretty easy to have 17 assists. I just made the right moves,” Giddey said.

Even without James Harden, who is suffering from leg pain, Philadelphia beat Minnesota 117-94. Joel Embiid led the team with 39 points, seven rebounds and three blocks. He was followed by Tyrese Maxey with 27 points, with the Sixers leading by as many as 28 points in a close game.

Dallas beat Utah 120-116 after a fight, when they could rely on 33 points and eight assists from Kyrie Irving or 29 points and 10 rebounds from Luka Doncic. Another 24 points were added by Tim Hardaway. 33 points from Finn Lauri Markkanen were not enough for the Jazz.
