Prague – The last farewell to the Slovak film director Juraj Jakubisko will take place on Saturday, March 4 from 1:00 PM in Prague's St. Vitus Cathedral. Cardinal Dominik Duka should celebrate the mass. This was confirmed to ČTK today by the Prague Archbishop Jiří Prinz. Jakubisko died at the age of 84 last week on Friday in Prague.

The newspaper Aha! reported today about the time and place of the last farewell to Jakubisko. “The mass should be celebrated by Cardinal Dominik Duka,” Prinz told ČTK.
The main speaker at the ceremony will be a family friend of the Jakubiskovs, former president Václav Klaus. “President Klaus was asked by Mrs. Deana to deliver the main eulogy at the farewell to director Juraj Jakubisko in the St. Vitus Cathedral on Saturday,” Klaus' spokesman Petr Macinka told iDNES.cz, referring to Jakubisko's wife, film producer Deana Horváthová. The current outgoing head of state, Miloš Zeman, will send a wreath with a ribbon to the president of the republic, Aha! his spokesperson Jiří Ovčáček.
Jakubisko was one of the most famous Slovak artists and was nicknamed the “Slovak Fellini” or the “Fellini of the East”. During his career, he shot several dozen feature films and documentaries. His best-known works include The Thousand-Year-Old Bee, Perinbaba, Vague report about the end of the world or Bathory.
In October 2019, a funeral mass for the singer Karel Gott took place in the St. Vitus Cathedral. Along with family, friends and colleagues, politicians, singers and actors, athletes and other invited guests came to say goodbye to the legend of Czech popular music. At that time, Duka also celebrated mass.
