Prague – The last farewell to Slovak film director Juraj Jakubisko will take place today in Prague's St. Vitus Cathedral. Cardinal Dominik Duka should celebrate the mass. Family friend and former president Václav Klaus will be the speaker at the funeral. The current outgoing head of state, Miloš Zeman, from whose hands Jakubisko at the Castle received the state award Medal for Merit 1st degree in 2016, will send a wreath with the ribbon of the President of the Republic.

Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová also sent a wreath to the native of Kojšov and a letter of condolence to the family. According to representatives of the Jakubisko Film company, he will not come to the last farewell, which will take place without the presence of the media.

Jakubisko died at the age of 84 on Friday, February 24 in Prague. He was one of the most famous Slovak artists and was nicknamed the “Slovak Fellini” or the “Fellini of the East”. During his career, he shot several dozen feature films and documentaries. His best-known works include The Thousand-Year-Old Bee, Perinbaba, Vague News about the End of the World and Bathory. The premiere date of his latest film, Perinbaba and two worlds, has not yet been announced.

In October 2019, a funeral mass for singer Karel Gott took place in St. Vitus Cathedral. Along with family, friends and colleagues, politicians, singers and actors, athletes and other invited guests came to say goodbye to the legend of Czech popular music. At that time, Duka also celebrated mass.
