Today is Wednesday May 26 and these are the main news of the day:
1.- On the same day that the United States reached 50 percent of the people fully vaccinated, the CDC authorized the Royal Caribbean cruise line to make test trips from the port of Miami starting in June. Royal Caribbean must demonstrate that 98 percent of its crew and 95 percent of its passengers have been vaccinated against the coronavirus.
2.- A sixth grade student from Broward reported that she has been harassed and attacked for almost a year because of her sexual orientation. It is about a 13-year-old girl who identifies as transgender. She was pushed and harassed as she walked through her school, Deerfield Middle School, which authorities said were assisting in the police investigation. The attack was recorded on video.
3.- Tomorrow is the deadline to submit an application for Miami-Dade’s affordable housing program, known as Plan 8. The county will select 5,000 applications at random. To be eligible, a single person cannot earn more than $ 31,650, for two people the limit is $ 36,200, for three people it is $ 40,700 and for a family of five it is $ 48,850.
4.- The state closed an assisted living center in Miami for fear concerns with the health and safety of the residents. There were six people living at Companion Home Care and the place had a history of problems with the number and training of staff. An employee was reported to have left the six people alone and locked the doors, posing a danger in the event of an emergency.
5.- Kim Kardashian was sued in a Los Angeles court by seven former cleaning and maintenance employees who accuse her of violation of their rights. The workers allege non-payment of their wages and say they worked during their time off. Kim’s defense blames an outside company that outsourced staff.
