Ostrava – The main star of the Golden Shoe meeting in June will be the world record holder in the pole vault Armand Duplantis from Sweden, the best athlete in the world for 2020 and 2022. Reigning Olympic champion, world and European champion will be presented in Ostrava for the second time after 2021.
The organizers informed about the start of Duplantis on the official website. The 62nd edition of the traditional meeting, which is included in the Continental Tour Gold category, will take place at the Municipal Stadium in Ostrava-Vítkovice on June 27.
The 23-year-old Duplantis has been the world record holder since 2000, his current maximum is 621 cm from last year's World Championships in Eugene. The organizers of Zlatá tretra hope that he could take care of the first six-meter jump in the history of the meeting on his second attempt this year. Two years ago, in cold weather, Duplantis won in Ostrava with a performance of 590 cm and even beat the meeting record of the American Sam Kendricks (593).
“Hello Ostrava, I'm looking forward to coming back after two years. Like me at your stadium, the great atmosphere always motivates me. So let's go together for the meeting record and maybe even the six-meter mark. 2023 is very important for me because of the world championship. But it's just as important for me to maintain a constant high level and enjoy every start. I believe that I will have the right support with you and we will all have a good time,” Duplantis was quoted as saying by the organizers of the meeting, which is one of the highlights of the season for Czech athletes.
The main star of the Zlaté tretra was in his prime, the phenomenal Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt.
