After the elections, both politicians expressed readiness to meet, but neither of them proposed a meeting date for several days. They were mutually expecting an initiative from the other side. In the end, Pavel offered Zeman the date of the meeting for today, and he accepted the proposal.
Zeman announced that he would like to talk with Pavel in Lány about the presidential destiny. Pavel, on the other hand, planned to ask Zeman, among other things, not to make any major decisions until the end of his mandate. He had in mind, in particular, the appointment of a new president of the Constitutional Court. But Zeman announced in the meantime that he would not take this step. He described his decision as a welcoming farewell gesture. Pavel considers Zeman's announcement to be correct. However, he did not rule out that he would remind Zeman of the topic during today's meeting.
“I assume that we will touch on everything that will be related to the handing over of the position. I will also ask him to be as open as possible,” Pavel said earlier at today's meeting. He does not think that media conjectures about who will propose a mutual meeting could in any way affect the atmosphere of the meeting. He expects a constructive approach, which according to him also prevailed in the case of meetings of office directors or press representatives.
