Rocks, the top of which was also engulfed in flames during a large-scale fire in 2022, March 1, 2023, Hřensko, Děčínsko. There are loose rock blocks on one of the rocks and they threaten to fall onto the road at the exit from Hřensko to Mezní Louka.

Hřensko (Děčínsko) – Remedial work on the removal of loose rock blocks in Hřensko will probably start next week. Tomáš Salov, spokesman for the administration of the Czech Switzerland National Park, told ČTK today. By Thursday, the park administration should have price offers from several specialized companies available. Due to the imminent fall of boulders, the road between Hřensk and Mezní Louka is closed for approximately three weeks from today. The bypass route leads through Vysoká Lípa near Jetřichovice. The road is also closed to pedestrians, so they can reach Pravčická brána from the direction of the Mezná settlement. The loose boulders were noticed by miners when they were removing trees damaged by last year's fire on the top of the rock opposite the Klepáč guesthouse.

The works will cost from one million to 1.5 million crowns. The costs will be covered by the park administration. However, he will demand the money from the owners of the threatened land, the municipality of Hřensko and the Ústí Region, who should cover the costs by law. “The owner of threatened land is obliged to take such measures to exclude damages and risks to the extent necessary,” said the spokesman.

The park administration has therefore contacted the crisis staff of the Ústí Region, which is scheduled to meet on March 8. According to the mayor of Hřensk, Zdeňko Pánek, it is too late. Hejtman Jan Schiller (ANO) told ČTK that an earlier convening of the crisis team was not possible due to personnel reasons. According to the representatives of the region, there will not even be an extraordinary meeting where the individual parties could agree on the procedure. Deputy Governor Jiří Řehák (Allies for the Region) told journalists today that financial matters will probably also be discussed with Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL), whom the elected president Petr Pavel wants to appoint to the position of Minister of the Environment on March 10.

< p>The closure is a complication for the residents of Mezná and Mezní Louka, who will have to use a detour route. “I don't intend to put up with the fact that it will be for such a long time. It is once again liquidating for the municipality,” said the mayor of the municipality, which wants to start the tourist season on April 1. “People learn to drive to us,” Pánek pointed out. According to him, tourists will probably decrease. In addition, Hřensko will lose the money it has from the operation of the boathouse in Edmund's Gorge, which will not open this year due to extensive damage after the fire. Only the Wild Gorge will be accessible this year.

Buses will also run along the alternative route. Řehák said that the regional department of transport temporarily canceled line 434. The second line 438 will partially take over the service of line 434. Line 438 will end in Hřensk, reaching the settlements via Jetřichovice. “This will bring significant complications, the journey is significantly longer,” added the deputy. According to him, it is also under discussion that the bus would go to the Three Springs, from where hikers can go to Pravčická brána.

The fire started in the national park on July 24 last year. The fire spread to 1,060 hectares and 6,000 firefighters took part in extinguishing it. Police are investigating the fire as a general threat. Residents of several villages had to evacuate, three houses burned down in the settlement of Mezná.
