Prague – Tomáš Lebeda, a political scientist and expert on electoral systems, will be the director of the internal political department of the administration of the new President Petr Pavl. Pavel informed about it on Twitter. He justified the choice by Lebeda's long-term experience in monitoring Czech politics, his knowledge of all important actors, but also his ability to clearly describe and explain current problems based on quality work with data. In a press release, Lebeda stated that the new president should restore dignity to the office of the head of state and emphasize the constitutional definition of presidential powers. He would like to help him achieve his goals.

“We look at things from the point of view of the same values, and his independence gives me confidence that his recommendations will not be influenced by the personal interests of selected players,” said Pavel.
Forty-six-year-old Lebeda lectures at the Faculty of Arts of the Palacký University in Olomouc, where he also heads the department of political science and European studies. He specializes in the field of elections, electoral systems and electoral behavior. “I hoped that the presidential election would be won by a candidate who would try to ease the long-term growing tension in society and take an active interest in the problems of ordinary citizens. It seems to me that Petr Pavel could really be such a president. And when he approached me, he said I feel that this is an unrepeatable chance, how I could at least help to fulfill these goals with my work,” said Lebeda.
ČTK subsequently said that it will deal with the detailed functioning of the department and how it will be built until after the inauguration. But she will end her work in the academic sphere already now. “I already informed my colleagues today that I am quitting as head of the department and that I am suspending most of my academic activities,” said ČTK Lebeda.
The future chancellor Jana Vohralíková said two weeks ago that she would like to restore the political department at the Castle.
