Spain and Italy yesterday won their respective quarter-final matches and that means that we will have a semi-final between these two great teams, a confrontation that is already a classic of the European Cups and international matches.
Italy and Spain have met on 37 occasions adding friendlies, qualifiers and tournament finals. The next match will be number 38 and as a curious fact, it could be the match that breaks the tie, since both teams have 11 victories over the other. The result that has been repeated the most is the tie, since Spain and Italy have drawn 15 times.

At the Euro Cups, the next match will be the seventh. So far they have met 6 times in the European trophy, where Italy has won 2 times and Spain once, but it was in the 2012 final, where they swept the Italians. The last confrontation took place in Euro 2016, in the round of 16, where the Italians won 2-0. In 2008 they also faced each other, this time in the quarterfinals, where Spain won on penalties,

In the World Cups they have also faced each other on several occasions, in the 1934 World Cup they did it twice to break the first quarter-final match that ended in a 1-1 tie. In the second match Italy beat Spain and left it out after La Roja had beaten Brazil in the second round.
But the most memorable match took place in the 1994 World Cup. The Italians beat Spain 2-1 in the quarterfinals, with controversy, as Tassotti, the Italian central defender, broke Luis Enrique’s nose inside the area and the referee did not whistle anything.
Now Luis Enrique has the opportunity to take revenge and eliminate the Italians, this time as coach in a match that is already a classic and that promises to be exciting.
