Prague – Member of Parliament and candidate for Prague mayor Bohuslav Svoboda (ODS) will remain in the House of Representatives if elected to the head of the metropolis. He will decide whether he will leave the position he holds in the lower house of Parliament after a discussion with his colleagues. Svoboda's statement was sent to ČTK by Lenka Mottlová, spokesperson of the Prague ODS. Seventy-nine-year-old Svoboda is a candidate for mayor for Spolu (ODS, TOP 09 and KDU-ČSL), which is now negotiating a coalition with Pirates and STAN. The parties are gradually approving the draft coalition agreement, which they want to sign before the meeting of representatives on February 16.
“I will carry out the function of mayor with full responsibility, I can't even imagine it any other way. I see the synergy with the parliamentary mandate as a unique benefit for Prague. Thanks to this, I will be able to enforce laws for Prague, which we are the new guarantor of and which the capital city absolutely needs,” he said. Freedom.
Gynecologist Svoboda is the chairman of the health care committee in the House of Representatives and a member of the petitions committee and the committee for science, education, culture, youth and physical education. He is also a member of the subcommittee for the field of specialized and professional education, science and research. Negotiations about a coalition in Prague on the governmental plan of Spolu, Pirátů and STAN have been going on since last September's elections, and have gradually become more complicated for various reasons. The situation was unblocked in mid-January by Spolu's bid, so that the Pirates and STAN would have a combined majority in the council, and subsequently the withdrawal of the Pirates from the alliance they had previously established with Praha Sobě.
The Spolu coalition won the municipal elections last fall 19 mandates. ANO ended second with 14 mandates. The Pirates have 13 representatives and Praha Sobě 11 mandates. Five representatives were won by the STAN movement and three by the SPD.
