After the various passes of arms and feats of strength via the social networks between Elon Musk, boss of Tesla, and the us authorities, an agreement on the reopening of the plant had finally been found today, Tuesday, may 12.
As of Wednesday, police in Fremont is coming to inspect the factory to verify the safety measures related to the installation and their functioning. Some employees had indicated that it would be impossible to meet this new organisation, given the nature of the work and tasks to be accomplished. This visit was requested by the Department of public health Alameda county.
The re-opening of the Tesla factory is obviously conditioned to the respect of strict rules designed to protect employees in the face of the sars coronavirus. These conditions, which have been the subject of discussions and which have been sealed to the terms of the agreement, including in particular the physical separation, masks, and testing.
Following this inspection, the police declared that she had had access to all the installation of the plant, but that it believed that Tesla was not fully operational. The plant obtains not, therefore, conformity for the recovery of all of its activities and is for the moment limited to his work as a basis.
No action for the moment
As the measures are currently being put in place and that the most recent discussions with Tesla are made in good faith, the representative of the Police indicates that, for the moment, he has not received the order to investigate and launch prosecution. The findings of the inspection will be sent to the department of public health. But if it turns out that Tesla is not able to be in compliance with the conditions of security, in this case the file will be sent to the county prosecutor who shall decide on the appropriateness of actions.
It should be noted that the employees were subjected to pressure from Elon Musk that threatened to be deprived of their unemployment benefits if they do not reproduce the work, in spite of the formal ban of the authorities. The billionaire did not hesitate to play the big arm, indicating that the recovery of the activity of the plant was its sole responsibility and that if someone were to be arrested by the police, it was him.
This inspection does not give full satisfaction in regard to the rules of safety will it lead to a new arms race between the us administration and Elon Musk ? A blocking of the activity, even partial, would, of course, put the fire to the powder with the billionaire.
