Prague – The Chamber of Deputies will prepare a copy of the constitution with the text of the presidential pledge for the inauguration of the new President Petr Pavel, which will be made in calligraphic script. The plates for the institute will also be specially made. This was told to ČTK by the chancellor of the Chamber of Deputies, Martin Plíšek. The president of the lower house, Markéta Pekarová Adamová, has already taken over the hand-made pen with which the new president, Petr Pavel, will sign the pledge. According to Plíšek, the House of Representatives will announce a competition for a ceremonial version of the constitution, which would be used in the future on similar ceremonial occasions.

The inauguration will take place on Thursday, March 9 at 2 p.m. in the Vladislav Hall at Prague Castle. At a joint meeting of the upper and lower chambers of the Parliament, Pavel will take the presidential oath and replace Miloš Zeman in office. The new head of state takes the oath in the hands of the President of the Senate, at the time of his renunciation his hand should be placed on a copy of the Constitution of the Czech Republic.

“We will prepare a copy of the constitution with the text of the pledge, which will be made in calligraphic script. We are also preparing special plates for the constitution,” said Plíšek. The Chamber also secured a special pen, which Pekarová Adamová took over from the manufacturer on Friday.

According to the pen manufacturer Marko Najvar from the Česká pera company, its basic color is black, the body and cap are made of German ebonite. Both parts of the pen carry the tricolor motif, this element is made of acrylic. There is a Czech lion symbol on the lid. The pen has an ink reservoir and a polished steel nib. It is placed in a gift box made of black walnut, which contains, in addition to a fountain pen, a ballpoint pen and an inkwell.

Plisek noted that the House of Representatives feels a certain debt to the way the constitution was implemented during the oath. He is therefore preparing a competition for the proposal of a ceremonial version of the constitution. It should be announced later this year and leading experts in the artistic processing of documents should participate. “We would like to have a ceremonial copy at the next promise of the president or at some annual events related to, for example, the anniversary of the approval of the constitution or other events,” the chancellor added.

Thursday's inauguration will be preceded by Wednesday's general exam, which will be attended by Pekarová Adamová and Senate President Miloš Vystrčil. Until then, Plíšek will meet once more with the head of the castle office, Vratislav Mynár, and his successor, Jana Vohralíková, to assess the preparations. Protocolists, organizational departments will also meet, and security measures will be fine-tuned together with the police and the security service.
