This week, Elizabeth Bollard, minister of the ecological Transition and solidarity, has announced the implementation of a plan of 20 million euros to facilitate the practice of the bicycle, because it has, in particular, in this period, many benefits.
A plan of 20 million euros
Bike, I not at risk of infecting others, but it’s been two months that I’ve had no physical activity, so it is good for my health and my immunity. Better than that, I free places in public transport and more, I do not take my car, saw that the back of the car, this would be the return of the pollution, and we know that the pollution is part of the aggravating factors for those who are suffering from Covid.
Olivier Schneider, president of the federation of users of the bicycle
The budget will allow hints, like helping in the reclamation of the millions of bicycles that are unused. As well, each of us will receive a flat rate of 50 euros for the authorised repairers. On the other hand, it will facilitate the setting up relay to learn or relearn to ride a bike, accelerate the construction of bicycle paths, and finally, participate in places of secure parking to limit the flights.
A vision for the long term ?
The strikes in the transport from the beginning of the year gave the bike the star of the urban mobility, at the point that these soft modes have been widely offered by the candidates in the municipal elections.
This crisis will, it seems, to change habits. The practice of the bicycle, which contributes to maintain better health, can save billions of euros for the company, including in health-care costs, the minister Elizabeth Terminal is convinced :
“The bike is a means of transport that has a lot of quality, it is good for the planet, good for the health, it is good for the wallet, and there, at a time when everyone wonders how he is going to return to work, it was a mode of travel, which, by nature, allows you to observe the gestures barriers.”
It is also an occasion to address our arrears vis-à-vis particular countries of the north. A Dutchman travels on average about 1000 km per year, compared to 100 for one French. This should reinforce the role of the bicycle in the travel plans of businesses, for incentives. There will be clearly a before and an after Covid, regarding modes of transport soft, it is the wish of Elizabeth Terminal.
We have the opportunity to show that cycling is a very good solution to move, we were given the objective to increase the modal share of cycling. When we know that 60% of journeys that are made in France are less than five kilometres, journeys can be done to the bike, not to mention the electric bike which expands the range of users, and I believe that this is indeed an opportunity to boost the bike at the time of the déconfinement.

These budgets are very small compared to the aid granted, in particular for the industries in the air, the car, or the train, but they show new behaviours, for the benefit of the greatest number.
