This Sunday about 10,000 people celebrated the Moscow marathon, the most important race in Russia , which despite being decimated by the coronavirus pandemic, could be held without major inconveniences. Far were the 30 thousand participants of the last edition, coming from 85 different countries, but their absence did not suspend the event.

What partially marred the competition happened just at the end when two runners were meters from the finish line. Yuri Chechun, who was running second, pushed Iskander Yadgarov when he tried to pass him , which already drew attention that something was not right in their fight. Then, who was finally the winner, was able to reach the first position by making a great final effort, but before crossing the finish line he turned back to observe his rival , put his right hand on his forehead and made a gesture as if not I could see it from how far away it was.

This singular mockery, which provoked the indignation of Yadgarov, who when completing the tour spread his arms looking for an explanation, immediately went viral and thousands of people showed their anger on social networks.

The noble gesture of the marathoner Diego Méntrida

Users condemned Chechun's unsportsmanlike gesture, and many even asked that he be penalized. In turn, they remembered another gesture, completely different, that also happened this weekend when Spanish Diego Méntrida was allowed to pass by English James Teagle before reaching the finish line in the Santander triathlon

It is that meters before, the British had confused the route and that had allowed the Iberian runner to pass it. “It's great to be racing again for the first time in a long time! I am very grateful to be able to get back on the starting line after such a long time. I was in Spain for a race when the country crashed in March so it's fitting that my first comeback race was in Spain as well. Thanks also to Diego Méntrida, who finished 4th. He showed incredible sportsmanship when I went the wrong way past the finish line . He stopped and allowed me to pass once I got back on the right track. Awesome and honest racing. Maybe one day I'll be in the same position and I hope I can be as sporty as him! “Teagle wrote on his social networks.

Regarding the Moscow marathon, Chechun was crowned the fastest, despite having made fun of his rival and was able to complete the route in 2 hours 16'07 ″.
