The Ambassador remembered the problems of the Crimean Tatars.
U.S. Ambassador to the Organization for security and cooperation in Europe, James Gilmore called on the international community to prosecute Russia for occupation of Crimea and aggression in Eastern Ukraine, reports the Chronicle.info with reference to Browser.
This is stated in a statement published on the website of the U.S. Mission to the OSCE. He stressed that Crimeans who opposed the annexation of the Peninsula, were subjected to the imprisoning and torture.
“Crimean Tatars opposed to Russian occupation, had been subjected to enforced disappearance, imprisonment, forced “psychiatric” treatment, demonstration trials and torture. The Russian government continues the militarization of the Crimean Peninsula, the Black sea and the Azov sea”, – reads the statement of the Ambassador.
“Instead of taking steps to reduce the violence in Eastern Ukraine, Russia has tried to deny its participation in this multi-year conflict that has killed more than 13 thousand men, women and children. It attempts to describe the situation as “an internal conflict” was widely rejected by the international community. Russia should show the necessary political will to put an end to this conflict, which helps no one,” said he.
Gilmore also expressed concern over the detention of the FSB of the Ukrainian military on the administrative border between Crimea and Kherson region.
“The United States fully supports the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, including its territorial waters. We will never recognize the annexation of Crimea by Russia”, – said the Ambassador.
He noted that sanctions against Russia will act till the “return of Crimea under Ukraine’s control”.
