“As early as Friday evening (today), the south-west wind will start to strengthen in the western half of Bohemia and change to west to north-west, with gusts of around 70 kilometers per hour, in the mountains around 110 kilometers per hour,” the ČHMÚ staff announced. “After midnight on Saturday, the wind will start to strengthen in the rest of the territory as well, here too we expect similar values of wind gusts, with the exception of parts of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands and Moravia, where gusts of northwest wind will reach 70 to 90 kilometers per hour even in lower and middle positions,” they added. In the western half of Bohemia, the wind will begin to weaken on Saturday after noon, while in the rest of the Czech Republic it will not occur until later in the afternoon and evening.
The strong wind warning is valid from 20:00 today until 13:00 Saturday for the entire Karlovy Vary and Pilsen Region, most of the Ústí Region and the western part of the Central and South Bohemian Regions. From 01:00 on Saturday, a warning is in effect for the whole of the Czech Republic. In addition to the previously mentioned regions in the west of Bohemia, the warning ends on Saturday at 19:00.
Meteorologists warn that trees and branches may fall due to the wind, which may then cause problems on roads or in electricity supplies. Wind can also cause problems when driving cars. The CHMÚ therefore recommends limiting going out and driving and monitoring meteorological and traffic reports. People should also secure things lying loose outside and secure windows.
In connection with stronger wind and snowfall, the ČHMÚ expects the formation of snow tongues on Saturday, especially in the mountainous areas in the northwest, north and northeast of the country and in part of the Jizera Mountains. and blizzards in the Giant Mountains. A warning for snowdrifts and drifts is in effect from Saturday night until 8:00 p.m. Saturday.
