Golden State's Klay Thompson (center) tries to get past Oklahoma's Aaron Wiggins (right) and Jaylin Williams in an NBA game on Feb. 7, 2023.
San Francisco (USA) – NBA basketball player Klay Thompson once again showed his exceptional shooting skills as he led the defending champion Golden State Warriors to a 141-114 win over Oklahoma City with 42 points and 12 three-pointers. He fell short of his own record by two triples. Cam Thomas improved his personal best for the second game in a row, but even his 47 points were not enough for Brooklyn to avoid a 116:124 defeat by the Los Angeles Clippers. Boston won 111-99 over Detroit and returned to first place in the competition.

The Warriors were missing leading scorer Stephen Curry, who was injured, but his teammates filled in for him. Jordan Poole had 21 points and 12 assists, all of them shooting well from long range. The Warriors made 26 3-pointers out of 50 attempts, even without the greatest 3-pointer of all time. Mainly thanks to Curry's shooting “twin” Thompson.
He became only the second player in history after Curry to make 12 threes twice. And he also made more than ten triples in a game for the eighth time. In this, he is also second in history behind Curry, who has 22 such games. Thompson performed better only in October 2018, when he hit 14 three-pointers. And only Curry and Zach LaVine hit 13 3-pointers. No one has made more shots from long range in one NBA game.
“It was great to watch Klay. We needed this a lot. We haven't had a shooting day this good in a long time. And especially without Steph Curry. should have been a confidence booster,” Warriors player Draymond Green said.
Thompson's three-pointers at the end of the half and at the beginning of the second half were especially key. They gave the Warriors a double-digit lead, and from then on, the defending champions kept increasing their lead. In the final quarter, he secured a victory that keeps the Warriors in the middle of the Western Conference standings in seventh place, just behind Phoenix and Dallas.
The Mavericks unexpectedly won 124:111 over Utah, despite starting without the injured Luka Doncic and new signing Kyrie Irving. Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith, whom Dallas sent to Brooklyn for Irving, were also unavailable. Even in the weakened state, he was able to resist, especially thanks to Josh Green and rookie Jaden Hardy, who scored a personal best of 29 points. Dallas got its first win of the season in a game where Doncic didn't start.
Brooklyn's Cam Thomas also makes great use of his chance in the absence of stars. Just two days after scoring 44 points to lead the Nets to a win over Washington, he again improved his personal best to 47 points. And he almost led a significantly weakened Brooklyn to victory again, as he still led by eight points in the last quarter. But the ending belonged to the Clippers, they won 25:9 in the last six minutes. Paul George contributed 29 points.
“I didn't know I was going to score another 40, but I felt very good. My teammates believed in me and fed me passes. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough,” Thomas said.

Boston took advantage of the past defeat of Denver and once again became independent at the top of the league. Jayson Tatum, who collected 34 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists, helped him win over Detroit. In the first half, he did not do so well and had only three baskets from the game. But 18 points in the third quarter decided the match.
Besides Thompson, Keegan Murray also shined from the three-point arc, he set a Sacramento rookie record with eight three-pointers and a total of 30 points set a personal best in the NBA. Thanks to him, the Kings beat Houston 140:120.
Milwaukee won for the eighth time in a row, winning 127:108 at Portland. Janis Adetokunbo had 24 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists. Brook Lopez helped him with 27 points.
