Prague – Rector of the University of Economics (VŠE) Petr Dvořák today requested the convening of a meeting of the academic senate of the Faculty of Economics of the VŠE, where it should be discussed the dismissal of the dean of the faculty, Miroslav Ševčík. The meeting could take place within a week of the submission of the application, university spokeswoman Věra Koukalová told ČTK today. Due to dissatisfaction with the dean's appearance in public, including his participation in Saturday's anti-government demonstration, the rector called on Ševčík to resign on Monday. Ševčík stated that he did not see a reason for his appeal and denied that he would harm the good name of VŠE, as his critics claim.

“This morning, the rector requested an immediate convening of the meeting of the academic senate of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Economics. According to current customs, it should be held within a week of submitting the request,” said Koukalová.

Dvořák announced after Tuesday's meeting of the management of VŠE that he considers the most appropriate solution to be for Ševčík to be dismissed by the academic senate of the Faculty of Economics. If the faculty academic senate does not dismiss Ševčík, the rector wants to use his authority to propose a recall. For this, he would need the approval of the academic senate of the entire university. Koukalová said today that the meeting of the university-wide academic senate will only be convened depending on the outcome of the meeting of the academic senate of the Faculty of Economics.

Ševčík claims that at the Saturday protest in front of the National Museum, where after the end of the anti-government demonstration some people tried to remove the Ukrainian flag from the building, he was only helping the injured. He also denied that he would harm the good name of VŠE, as his critics and the rector of the school claim. He added that, at the rector's request, he had previously limited his public appearances, ceased to be an economic expert of the Tricolor movement and does not appear as a speaker at anti-government demonstrations.

Ševčík represents a reputational problem for the university, according to Education Minister Vladimír Balaš (STAN). . On Tuesday, Balaš stated on his Facebook that he believes that Ševčík's position at the head of the faculty is unsustainable. He added, however, that the Minister of Education has no legal tools to remove the dean from his position.

Due to dissatisfaction with Ševčík's public appearance, some students and graduates of the University of Economics also want the current dean to leave his position. Today after noon they are holding a demonstration in front of the VŠE headquarters, where they want to call on Ševčík to resign, or to appeal to the academic senate of the faculty to dismiss the dean.
