Whether they like it or not Microsoft and its range of gaming with an Xbox, you definitely cannot remove the quality of services and especially the profitability for the player. Thanks to the Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft puts everyone of agreement. For only€ 9.99 per month, it is possible to play free of charge to over 300 games, including the last exclusives that are added to the service on the day of their release.
For only 12,99€ per month, you can even fall for the Xbox Game Pass Ultimare, a version of “ultimate” adds a subscription to Xbox Live Gold (to play online), but also the PC version of the Game Pass offering 100 additional games. And in the month of September, it will be possible to access without additional charges to the Project Xcloud. Suffice to say that Microsoft realizes a without fault on this plan.
And after recent rumours, which are more numerous, Microsoft could even offer a online game totally free, abandoning the famous Xbox Live Gold.
Xbox Series X – A stoppage in play online paying ?
It is, therefore, in November 2002 to celebrate the first anniversary of the Xbox that Microsoft is launching the Xbox Live. An online service fee that allowed players to purchase extra content for their games, download demos free, but also to play with their friends and online with players from around the world.
The department will take the importance as early as 2005 with the launch of the Xbox 360. It is at this point that Xbox Live Gold will happen. Microsoft was a bit the first to launch online games to pay for, but also the first to launch the fashion of the ” DLC ” that took a lot of momentum through services such as Xbox Live.
Since then, Microsoft has perverted Sony and Nintendo. Since 2013, the live is always payable on PS4 (with PS Plus) as well as on Xbox One. And from 2018, the online game is also a paid Switch. More than 15 years later, is that Microsoft will be the first to go back ? And the others will follow the example of the firm of Redmond ?
For the moment, we are still at the stage of rumors. However, after several noise corridors these past few days, it is the turn of Jeff Grubb, american journalist for VentureBeat to announce a fairly formal on Twitter.
Xbox Live Gold is going away and playing online multiplayer will be free. They will not force you into Ultimate to play online.

It was during a response to a user on Twitter that Jeff Grubb has confirmed fairly clear that Microsoft’s strategy for the next-gen would be to delete the game online paying. The latter states that :
The Xbox Live Gold will disappear and play more online will be free. They will force you not to take out a subscription (Xbox Game Pass), Ultimate for play online.
Of course, as long as Microsoft is not communicating then it is very difficult to confirm or not these comments. However, this would seem totally logical in the perspective of setting before the Game Pass. Matter to follow therefore, but the most interesting would be to see the response from Sony to play online on the PlayStation 5.
