Poor air quality forces the City of Val-d'Or to evacuate the sectors of Louvicourt, Lake Wyeth, Lake Gueguen, Lake Matchi-Manitou and Lake Villebon.
The City of Val -d'Or is urgently evacuating the areas of Louvicourt, Lake Wyeth, Lake Gueguen, Lake Matchi-Manitou and Lake Villebon due to nearby forest fires.
The City of Val-d'Or ordered at 7 p.m. Saturday the evacuation of these sectors located 30 kilometers east of its urban core.
Given that two out-of-control fires are raging on the east side of the Louvicourt sector and due to poor air quality, the City of Val-d'Or is declaring a state of emergency and issuing a notice of evacuation, mentioned the municipal organization in a press release.
The evacuees are directed to the Fournier multisport center, i.e. to the same place where the members of the communities of Lac-Simon and Kiticisakik, evacuated earlier today.
Citizens of other areas of Val-d'Or, including the urban core, are not affected by this evacuation notice. The City ensures that forest fires do not currently threaten the urban perimeter of Val-d'Or.
Air quality in Val-d' ;Gold is however considered to be very bad. Public health has also recommended confinement indoors until 9 a.m. Sunday morning.
