“It's a great start to the season,” praised Vekičová, who played her second Grand Slam quarterfinal at the Australian Open in January. “If the title didn't come now, I would get it sometime soon. I'm playing good tennis now, and if I stay healthy, I'm sure I'll get results,” added the Croatian, who underwent knee surgery two years ago.
The winner of last year's Tournament of Champions, Garcia, did not lose a set on her way to the final in Mexico, but she again fell short of her first title this year. A month ago, she lost a decisive duel in Lyon.
The clay tournament in Santiago was won by the Chilean tennis player Jarry
Home tennis player Nicolás Jarry won the clay tournament in Santiago de Chile. In the nearly three-hour final, he defeated the Argentine Tomás Martín Etcheverry 6:7, 7:6, 6:2 and after almost four years won his second title on the ATP circuit.
Jarry followed up the previous successful tournament in Rio de Janeiro, where he lost only in the semi-finals to the favored Carlos Alcaraz. “It's unbelievable, it means a lot to me, especially when I've been successful two weeks in a row,” said the 27-year-old Chilean, who turned the last three matches at the tournament from 0-1 to sets.
After the successes in the South American tournaments, Jarry moved up to 52nd in the rankings, more than 100 places higher than when he started the season.
