The world in the face of the virus : each week, four corresponding to franceinfo tell how the crisis of the sars coronavirus is managed. Direction Italy, Germany, Belgium and Russia to address the issue of the bike, in the city, in the aftermath of the health crisis. RADIO FRANCE
Since the beginning of the déconfinement, the bike is a true subject of society in France : State aid to repair his bike, debates on the cycle tracks in major cities for the second round of the municipal elections and increase in bike sales across the country. And also, is this also the case ? The pandemic has really promoted the practice of the bicycle in our neighbors ? Management with the traffic-packed streets of Brussels and Moscow, the cycle paths of Berlin and a repairer of bicycles in Rome.
Italy multiplies the inciations
In Italy, the largest exporter of bicycles in Europe, it does everything it can to encourage the purchase of a bicycle. If you are over 18 years of age and that you live in a city of over 50,000 inhabitants, the State gives you 60% of your purchase with a ceiling of 500 euros. Since they know it, the Italians were thrown in the bike shops. Some of the major names in sport have had to create two entries, one solely for the bikes.
Germany is also pushing tracks “pop-up”
A German on two uses his bike every day, and many new cycle paths have been created during the confinement. In Berlin we call tracks “pop-up”. They have appeared on roads usually reserved for cars on very long distances. Berlin wants to create around thirty more in the next few days.
Belgium adapts to the mode of two-wheeler
In Brussels, a bicycle path of 40 km was created for the containment and it may remain permanently. The city must adapt to this new phenomenon because it’s not really tailored to the two-wheel-drive. First, there is the passage of trams on most of the major axes, then there are many cobbled streets and, finally, motorists who don’t have the usual two wheels. We do not see, for example, almost no scooter in Brussels. And for the inhabitants of Brussels who do not know how to ride a bicycle, there is an association of “pro-bike” who had the idea to offer courses for adult beginners.
In Russia, the bike still did not rating
Finally, in Moscow, the epidemic has changed nothing. There is always a system of 3 200 bicycle service mostly used by young Muscovites at the weekend, but otherwise the practice of the bicycle is relatively limited. The reason for this ? A city of 12 million inhabitants who prefer the public transport, knowing that for six months of the year, temperatures are below zero.
