The volcano has been on a yellow alert since November 8, due to the increase in its activity.
A “seismic shot”, with 21 tremors of volcanic origin, was recorded in the Villarrica volcano.
According to the National Geology and Mining (SERNAGEOMIN) the phenomenon occurred in a period of 75 minutes.
Let us remember that the Villarrica volcano has been on a yellow alert since November 8, after detecting an increase of its activity.
SERNAGEOMIN does not rule out events of greater magnitude
SERNAGEOMIN specified that one of the situations being analyzed is the probability of alluvium is that a major event could generate.
“The current condition of the volcano, with coverage of snow and ice, is greater than in March 2015, when was the last eruption“, said SERNAGEOMIN National Deputy Director of Geology, Alvaro Amigo.
“What one might expect is that if we had an event of a similar magnitude, the volcanic alluvium would be larger due to the amount of solid water available that could melt suddenly,” Amigo assured.
