Pilsen – Vladislav Třeška, a Pilsen surgeon and head of the surgical clinic of the Pilsen University Hospital, died on Friday at the age of 65. The Pilsen hospital announced it on the website today. He has been at the head of the clinic since 1999, as its head he built it into a prestigious medical workplace. He laid the foundations of the largest liver surgery center in the Czech Republic. He also dealt with vascular surgery and transplantology. He received a state award last year for his long-term contributions to science, research and education.

“An excellent expert, recognized throughout the world, for whom the patient always came first, has passed away. The departure of Professor Vladislav Třeška is a great loss for the entire FN Pilsen,” the hospital said.

Třeška was born in Pilsen. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the Charles University in Pilsen and remained loyal to his hometown. He worked his entire professional life at the surgical clinic of the Pilsen University Hospital, which he led as head from 1999. Since then, care there has focused primarily on vascular surgery, liver and biliary tract surgery, thoracic surgery, gastrointestinal tract surgery and experimental surgery.

Under his leadership, the surgical clinic also became an important part of the trauma center for adults and children, and its size and focus make it one of the leading surgical workplaces in the Czech Republic. In 2002, a kidney transplant from a so-called non-beating donor was performed at the surgical clinic, for the first time in the Czech Republic.

Within a few years, Třeška became an internationally recognized specialist in the field of transplantology and vascular and liver surgery. He completed a number of internships abroad, for example in Britain or the USA.

Last year, he received the First Class Medal for Merit in Science, Education and Education from the hands of the President. He was also a recipient of the City of Pilsen Award.

Třeško also taught at the Faculty of Medicine of the Charles University in Pilsen, where he also served as vice dean. He was the chairman of the Czech Transplantation Society and the Scientific Council of Charles University in Prague and the Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen. He is the author of many professional monographs, the number of his domestic and foreign publications exceeds four hundred. He was also a frequent guest of domestic and foreign professional forums.
