Negotiations over the settlement agreement under diesel scandal between the German automobile concern of Volkswagen AG and the Federal Association of centres for the protection of the rights of consumers of Germany ended in failure. However, the automaker promises directly to pay compensation to the owners of vehicles with diesel engines that have undergone manipulation, reports DW.
It is noted that VW has accused of failure of the settlement agreement lawyers for the plaintiffs, who sought compensation in the case of data manipulation on the content of harmful substances in exhaust gases of diesel engines.
In turn, the organization representing consumers, blamed the Volkswagen.
According to defenders of consumers, VW has refused to establish a transparent system of compensation. Volkswagen said that the representatives of the plaintiffs demanded a one-time legal fee of 50 million euros, but did not substantiate this amount.
However, the parties have agreed about a common compensation volume of 830 million euros. Every owner of a diesel VW engine, which was subjected to manipulation to get from 1800 to 2100 euros, depending on the total number of recognized claims. The carmaker after an extraordinary meeting of the Board after the failure of negotiations announced that preserves the intention to compensate the buyers for the amount claimed.
Earlier , the European Commission suspected the German automakers BMW, Volkswagen and Daimler in violation of antitrust laws. The EC believes that the companies colluded to restrict competition in the development of technology to clean the emissions of gasoline and diesel engines of passenger cars.
