“Concacaf has been working for the past two years to introduce VAR into its competitions with various training and development opportunities for elite referees in our region. The process was slightly delayed due to the challenges related to COVID-19, but last week the Confederation was able to enter the final stages of its planning to introduce the technology ”, the statement reads.
In short, according to the sports body, they will be in the semifinals and in the final of the Concacaf Champions League 2021, the Nations League finals (June 3-6) and the Gold Cup (July 2-August 1), competitions where technology will be used to assist referees.
In conclusion, the America and Olimpia match is part of the 2021 tournament, but the phase is the Round of 16, therefore the VAR service was not available.
