Prague – Winter has returned to the Czech Republic, it is snowing in many places, according to road officials, drivers should be very careful when driving. In the Liberec Region, due to heavy snowfall since early morning, the busy road I/10 from Tanvald to Harrachov and on to Poland was closed for trucks over 3.5 tons. So far, about ten centimeters of snow has fallen in the Krkonoše mountains, and it is also snowing in Orlické hory or Jeseníky. According to meteorologists, up to 60 centimeters of snow may fall in the Jizerské hory and Krkonoše mountains during the weekend, and between ten and 30 centimeters of snow will fall elsewhere in the mountainous areas. Because of the wind, there is a risk of snowdrifts, in lower areas there may be ice or frost.

The I/10 road from Tanvald to Harrachov is closed for trucks over 3.5 tons from 6:00 a.m. Buses and cars pass through here. The restriction should be in place until midnight on Sunday. Depending on the state of traffic and the development of the weather, the closing date may change, Ondřej Svoboda from the company Silnice LK, which is in charge of the roads in the Liberec region, told ČTK. “The recommended alternative route for trucks is through the Hrádek nad Nisou border crossing on road 35. We appeal to truck drivers to use an alternative route during the closure and not try to drive through the closed section,” he emphasized.

In recent years, the 18-kilometer section of the road from Tanvald to Harrachov has been closed for freight traffic, with the exception of buses, every time there is heavy snowfall. A single stuck truck is enough to block the road there.

In the lower areas of the Liberec Region, the snowfall turns into rain and snow. Even on the main routes there are remnants of snow and they can slide. Truck drivers should be careful, especially on inclines. Temperatures in the region range from minus two to three degrees, but according to meteorologists it will get colder and it will snow throughout the region.

< p>So far, almost ten centimeters of snow has fallen in the Giant Mountains. A car collided with a spreader in Pec pod Sněžkou after 08:00. There were no injuries in the accident. “There is a one-lane shuttle at the site,” police said. The snowfall also affected the higher elevations of Jičín and Orlická hora. Road workers went out this morning to treat roads mainly in Trutnovsk, Rychnovsk, Náchodsk and Jičín. The roads in the lower areas of the Hradec Králové region were wet this morning after rain showers.

Snowfall also affected part of the Pardubice region, a light layer of snow covered the first class road number 11 in the section Jablonné nad Orlicí – Červená Voda this morning. Snow also covered the roads in the vicinity of Hlinsko in the Chrudim region. In Orlickoústek today, the wind could create tongues of snow on the roads, meteorologists warned. It rained in places in the lower regions of the region.

In the Olomouc region, it started to snow in the morning in the highest regions. According to road workers, this is mainly the area of ​​Červenohorské sedlo and Skřítek, where there is slushy snow on the roads. In the lower-lying areas in the north of the county, rain and snow fall and the roads are mostly bare and wet.
