Chomutov – Žabin Brno basketball players defeated SBŠ Ostrava 97:54 in the semi-finals of the Czech Cup in Chomutov, and on Sunday they will attack to defend last year's championship and their 19th triumph in total . Natálie Stoupalová's 18 points helped her to enter the Final Four. The second finalist will emerge from the duel between the home team Levhartice and Slovanka, which will start at 17:00.
The second team in the league table behind the dominant USK Praha, which did not enter the cup and is concentrating on fighting in the Europa League, had the reins of the match against seventh placed Ostrava in their hands from the start. American Bria Holmesová (15), Petra Záplatová (12) and Eliška Hamzová with Michaela Vondráčková (both 10) scored double-digit points in a clear fight. The best scorer of the match, however, was Adéla Smutná from Ostrava with 20 points.
“We were very successful in entering, which was the key to us winning by so many points. We played aggressively in defense and that allowed us to play fast counterattacks,” said Hamzová in the club's press release. “The final will be about something different. We have to prepare, rest and get into it tomorrow,” added the national team point guard.
