Kyiv – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday dismissed a high-ranking military commander Eduard Moskalyov, who participated in leading the fight against the Russian army in eastern Ukraine. According to Reuters, he did not state the reason.

Zelenskyj by decree dismissed the commander of the joint Ukrainian forces participating in the fighting in Donbass. He already mentioned Moskalyova on Friday in the list of military commanders with whom he spoke. According to Reuters, Moskalyov has held the post since March 2022. The Ukrainian army did not comment on the commander's dismissal on social networks.
Russian forces are trying to control Donbas, and Zelenskyy has described the military situation there as difficult and painful in recent weeks. Russian troops are concentrating their efforts on the town of Bakhmut despite heavy casualties reported by Ukrainian and Western officials. Also on Sunday, the Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian troops had carried out several unsuccessful attacks in the Bakhmut area.
