Prague – Outgoing President Miloš Zeman received American Ambassador Bijan Sabet and his wife Lauren today at Prague Castle. The meeting took place nine days after Zeman received the credentials from Sabet and the ambassador officially began working in the Czech Republic. The spokesperson for the head of state, Jiří Ovčáček, announced the acceptance on Twitter without further details.

Sabet has been staying in the Czech Republic since January 31. The last American ambassador in Prague was Stephen King, at the end of 2020 he announced that he would give up this position with the arrival of the new president Joe Biden. Since then, the post of US ambassador in Prague has been vacant, the embassy was temporarily headed by chargé d'affaires Christy Agorová.
Sabet is one of the founders and general partner of Spark Capital, which deals with venture capital. Prior to that, he worked as a senior executive at a number of technology start-up companies in Silicon Valley, California and Massachusetts. He is a member of the board of trustees of Boston College, from which he received his bachelor's degree.
