Several months ago we had our first official look at Space Jam: A New Legacy, the highly anticipated sequel fans have been waiting for years to see. Although in general it seems that everyone was very satisfied with the material shown, there was a common element that the fans could not miss: the redesign of Lola bunny for this feature film. Even Zendaya, who lends his voice to the character, didn’t think there was going to be so much controversy over this.

Talking with Entertainment Weekly, Zendaya said the following:

“I had no idea that people were going to react that way. I definitely knew they wanted her, but I didn’t think it would be that important. But I understand, he is a very loved character. It is special to people and many grew up with it, so I understand that sense of protection. But listen to me, I only did what the producers and the rest of the team asked of me, I am only here offering my services. No, but seriously, I am very grateful for the opportunity. “

Previously, its director, Malcolm D. Lee, He said that his intention with this redesign was not to anger the community or anything like that, just that it fit better with the vision that the filmmaker had for the film.

Space Jam: A New Legacy will debut on July 16 in theaters and HBO Max.
