The president explained the reasons for not modifying the pension system of the Armed Forces, PDI, Carabineros and Gendarmerie, in the Pension Reform. He also highlighted the arrival of Vlado Mirosevic to the presidency of the Chamber of Deputies, assuring that “he will be a facilitator of the reforms that we are promoting.”

The President Gabriel Boric explained the reasons for not “playing” the pension system of the Armed Forces and the police in the Previsional Reform, ensuring that “you have to choose the battles”.

This was stated in an interview with Tu Conexión Matinal on the TVR channel, where he addressed the proposal that seeks to eliminate the current AFP system.
On the occasion, the president defended the initiative that goes hand in hand with the Tax Reform, mainly to comply with the proposal to increase the Universal Guaranteed Pension.

In that sense, he explained the reasons for not including the Armed Forces, in addition to Police, PDI and Gendarmerie, who are affiliated with the National Defense Provident Fund (Capredena).

“In Chile, an important part of the pensions are financed by the State, both in the case of the basic solidarity pillar, the PGU, and in the case of the Armed Forces”, he maintained.

& #8220;Why are the Armed Forces not part of the AFP system? Because when the AFP system was created during the dictatorship, they were very clear that it was not convenient for them to join the AFP”, he criticized.

“We should move towards it gradually, but I think that today one has to know how to choose their battles, and today we are worried about increasing pensions for the majority of Chileans”, he stated.
