The British ambassador accredited to the Dominican Republic, Mockbul Ali OBE, and his wife Sajeda Qureshi, offered a reception at the Dominican Republic. n to celebrate the 96th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II, which this year coincides with her Platinum Jubilee, which in turn celebrates her 70 years on the throne.
The evening started with the national anthems of both countries, performed by the violinist Aisha Syed Castro.
The diplomat expressed words of gratitude to the first lady Raquel Arbaje de Abinader, guest of honor, who said “The British and Dominican people have been united for more than a century and a half by fraternal ties, since the The United Kingdom was the first country to recognize to the Dominican Republic as an independent nation”.
