Social networks have become a platform for multiple content creators to show off their skills. And, at least on TikTok, You can’t miss the chefs who show all kinds of recipes to captivate the viewers, although some of these are often widely criticized for the expensive cuts of meat they use or some ingredients that are not easily accessible to the population in general.

This is why, recently, a chef named Isaías Espinoza (@chefenproceso) put aside his recipes for stews, pasta or even desserts, to surprise his followers with a traditional Mexican appetizer: salt tacos.

“Today, a salt taco, we prepare the grill with a fire to 200 degrees centigrade. This circle of criollo nixtamalized corn recently out of the mill is placed on top, turned over so that its structure softens and left to rest, to then sprinkle a tiny amount of solidified sodium chloride roll up the corn wafer and give it to the professionals for criticism”, he remarked.

Later, the young man offered his culinary creation to the tiktoker known as Didi (@didiwinx), who made disgusted gestures when tasting it and jokingly added: “I really don’t feel the salt, I don’t know where you left it, I don’t feel it,” he commented.

The tiktok quickly reached more than 1 million likes and comments from Internet users were immediate, as some of them did not hesitate to worry about Didi’s health.

“The next day swollen arms and legs. Goodbye kidneys”. “You’re going to get kidney stones.” “They were the two hardest bites of his life.” “The salt lacked a taco.” “Yes, it was good, but the excess salt it had can harm your health and obviously it reaches the kidneys and you were screwed, but it did lack more salt”, were some of the mentions.

Furthermore, other Internet users took the opportunity to joke about the price of preparing this recipe.

“Again a video where all the ingredients cost more than my house”. “At the end, a recipe where I have the ingredients”, wrote some users.

It should be noted that, although the video was a parody, in Mexico it is common for various residents of the country to taste tortillas with salt to accompany their stews. Even in some tortilla shops, the same workers offer their clients one of these “snacks” while they wait in line.

Thus, although the tortilla of corn is one of the most important foods for Mexican gastronomy, in the past a video went viral on TikTok where private school students competed to guess how much a kilo of this product cost and were severely thrashed on social networks for their answers.

According to data from the National Market Information and Integration System (SMIIM) in March 2007, the price per kilogram (kg) in the country was an average of 8 pesos and 60 cents, however, by March 2022, that is 15 years later, the cost per kg oscillated between 18 and 19 pesos.

But these young people from the Anahuac gave some prices a little far from reality:

I don’t know, that is, six pesos?”. “20 pesos?”. “I don’t know, 14 pesos? “Five pesos?”, were some of the answers given by the participants in the video, laughing.

Users of TikTok They quickly responded to those who said extremely low prices:

“Like 6, not even if it was a combi”, “he gets angry in low class”, “ now ask them what the tortilla is made of”, “here the phrase enters: ‘of course, you say it from your privilege’”, “in which country do those who think that 6 pesos live”, they pointed out.
