Last night, the Dodgers and Padres met for the first time this season in a playoff-worthy game. Los Angeles ultimately won the game by a score of 11-6 thanks to a Corey Seager homerun early in the 12th inning.

According to David Price, the rivalry between the two teams took to another level last night. Sure enough, in that game, Dodgers reliever Dennis Santana hit Jorge Mateo with a quick pitch and the benches and relief pens were emptied afterwards.
All rivalries in baseball are really good, but once you get that first moment (the benches emptying), that’s where it takes it to the next level. I’m sure we’ll be ready to play (Saturday) and so will they. I think we have (Clayton Kershaw) on the mound, so we’ll be ready.

It was the first regular-season game between the two teams since the Dodgers knocked out the Padres in the 2020 playoffs. Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts said the intensity was there.
It was like a playoff game. The intensity was there. I can look up and down my roster and everyone has contributed. I’m just emotionally exhausted. I am proud of everyone.
Dave Roberts
The table is therefore set for the second duel of the season between the “new rivals”. The two teams will meet again 18 times by the end of the season. It promises for the future, then.
