An F16 fighter plane drove into a building for technical work at the Leeuwarden air base on Thursday morning. according to local media the pilot would have used his ejection seat to free himself. The pilot and a technical employee – who was present in the building during the incident – were injured in the incident. This is reported by the Security Region NRC. It is not known if they are in mortal danger.
It is also still unclear what the exact cause of the incident is. The fire brigade is present at the air base on Thursday morning, but according to the spokesperson for the Security Region, this is “standard procedure” and there is no fire in the building or the aircraft.
The F16 aircraft would take off from the airbase for the last time on Thursday. The new location is Volkel. There was a farewell moment on the schedule, but that has been canceled due to the incident.
