While London is the center of the world for football and tennis this weekend, New York is for motorsport. Qualifying for the second E-Prix in the Big Apple took place this afternoon after the one experienced yesterday and ended up in the hands of Maximilian Gunther and BMW.
Today there was a response from Jaguar Racing thanks to a 1-2 signed by Sam Bird and Mitchell Evans. Bird took pole position thanks to a time of 1’08 “572, beating his teammate by just 90 thousandths of a second.
The fight for pole was nothing short of exciting, because the gap between the top 3 is just 91 thousandths. Nick Cassidy, after losing the race yesterday, managed to win the second row and third place, but close to second place.
Cassidy was mocked by Evans for just 1 thousandth of a second. This was enough to keep the Jaguar driver in the front row and give the British team the entire front row.

The Virgin team driver will later share the second row with Porsche team lead driver Pascal Wehrlein. The German, however, suffered a delay from Bird of almost two and a half tenths.
The third row will be shared by Sergio Sette Camara (Dragon Racing) and the second Porsche, that of Andre Lotterer. Both preceded the Techeetah team’s first car, that of Antonio Felix Da Costa, and the Mahindra of Alex Lynn and Alexander Sims. Norman Nato’s Venturi closes the Top 10.
The leader of the World Championship, Edoardo Mortara, did not go beyond the 14th time, so he will start from the seventh row, alongside his compatriot Sébastien Buemi from DAMS. Mortara made a mistake by finishing long in Turn 1 and this cost him almost 1 second.
Very difficult qualifications for Jean-Eric Vergne. The Frenchman will start last due to an accelerator failure in his Techeetah team car. Next to him yesterday’s E-Prix winner, Maximilian Gunther.
