Before the start of the South American qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani , who was not summoned by Master Tabarez for the first two matches of the Uruguayan team, revealed that it occurred in one of the most remembered crosses that he starred in in his career.
This confrontation dates from November 18, 2019, when the Uruguayan striker went face to face with Lionel Messi minutes before the end of the first half of a friendly match that ended in a 2-2 draw in Tel Aviv (Israel).
That controversial discussion toured the world after the cameras captured the moment in which the Barcelona captain invited him to fight on the pitch: “Anytime, anytime,” were the words that could be seen coming out of his mouth.
Messi to Cavanni: “whenever you want”
The clock marked 41 minutes of the first half when “La Pulga” commanded a counterattack at sheer speed. It was there when he received a violent foul from Matías Vecino , which led to a heated discussion in which several players from both teams participated.
However, the cameras were left with one of the confrontations that were taking place in that area: that of Edinson Cavani with Lionel Messi, which did not pass to greater thanks to the rapid intervention of the then Barcelona teammate Luis Suárez , who separated them , taking the Rosario to one side of the field.
The confrontation did not end on the pitch , since after the whistle that marked the end of the game, both met again in the tunnels that connect the pitch with the changing rooms. A day that ended up full of memes about that episode on social networks.

Now, almost a year after that discussion, Cavani spoke about what happened in dialogue with ESPN : “I am very horny when they tell me things that hurt. These are things that happen on the court. Sometimes words hurt, then sometimes those things bother me and when I get angry about those things … It was a crossword, football goes on and things go on and it ends there ”.
Finally, he explained that they are “things that remain in the field. We both said, I clarify . I also have my mistake and we both told each other. Not only did Messi shout things at me and I was a saint on the pitch. I got angry and I also told him things, I had my moment, I got angry. But it ends there. “
