The authorities confiscated the smuggled shipment, which amounted to 2.5 billion Egyptian pounds (195 million dollars) in 2019.
The defendants, seven Pakistanis, two Egyptians and an Iranian, hid the heroin in a secret room on the back of a ship.
This ruling can be appealed to the Court of Appeal within two months.
In April 2018, the General Administration of Narcotics Control, in coordination with the relevant security services, thwarted the entry of the largest amount of heroin into Egypt through the Red Sea waters in Safaga.

The incident began when information reached the security services stating that a gang intended to bring in large shipments from one of the merchant ships flying the Iranian flag, to transport the shipment across the Red Sea.
After legalizing the procedures, the ship was targeted when it was in the territorial waters of the Red Sea, where the navy was able to control it, seize it and its crew, while the inspection work resulted in the seizure of a large amount of narcotics hidden inside a secret store specially prepared in the ship’s hull for this purpose.
