German police arrested the British citizen, David S., on Tuesday, on suspicion of handing over documents to the Russian intelligence service in exchange for unspecified money, prosecutors said.
They added, in a statement, that David’s apartment and workplace were searched and he will appear before an investigative judge on Wednesday.
“In at least one instance, he handed over documents obtained through his work to a representative of the Russian intelligence service,” the Federal Prosecution Office said in a statement.
“The accused received money, the value of which is not yet clear, in exchange for transmitting this information,” according to what Reuters reported.

The police arrested the man in Potsdam, outside Berlin, after a joint investigation between German and British authorities.
British police confirmed that the German authorities had arrested the man on suspicion of crimes related to “intelligence activity”.
According to AFP, David S, a British citizen, has been an employee of the UK embassy since November 2020, but it was not immediately known what position he held.
