Brett Johnson, a former Valve designer, currently employed at ArenaNet, shared an online ‘image of one of the first prototypes ofHalf-Life original, also explaining that there was some debate to decide the final name of the game.
The picture shows the first locker room design, the one you encounter at the beginning of the adventure. The idea of scientists taking refuge when they feel threatened basically derives from the observation of the behavior of the scientists of Goldeneye 007, who go to seek shelter in case of danger.
Half-Life had to be much more brutal
As you can see, there is blood everywhere in the image. Half-Life was originally supposed to be much more brutal and gore, but with the development some of the violence has been mitigated.

As icing on the cake, Johnson also said that Half-life could have been called in another way: two of the titles suggested by the other members of Valve were Trip Hammer and The Belly of the Beast, but there were also other eligible candidates. In the end, Half-Life was chosen and history will remember him like this. Who knows if another name would have changed the fate of the franchise …
Finally, Johnson talked about the Xen levels, those in which the final part of the game is set, which were made in a hurry for the short time available. Not for nothing have they always been considered the weaker side of Half-Life, the one that many are not sorry to see modified in the Black Mesa remake.
