The Institute of Higher Education in Diplomatic and Consular Training ( Inesdyc) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (Unitar), held the conference “The United Nations system and the essence of multilateral diplomacy”, during the opening ceremony of the VI cohort of the Specialty in Commercial Diplomacy, in the Aula Magna Dr. Eduardo Latorre Rodríguez.
The conference was delivered by Rabih El-Haddad, Unitar’s Director of Multilateral Diplomacy, in Geneva; who stood out In the first order, the historical evolution of multilateralism, since this allowed The creation of the concept of International Organizations, followed by the challenges that the United Nations Organization (UN) faces today. He discussed the basic pillars of multilateralism, and stressed: “this helps us to refresh our memories and understand why it is an important tool in the formulation of international policies.”
Within his presentation, the speaker highlighted the challenges multilateralism faces today, dividing them into internal and external challenges, highlighting trust, peace and security, climate change, human rights and the Sustainable Development Goals as external challenges .

The purpose of the conference was to sensitize the participants of the VI cohort of the Specialty in Commercial Diplomacy, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Foreign Service and special guests, about the important role played by ;to the United Nations system in multilateral diplomacy.
