• Plan Directors Sierra with the ambassador of the European Union

Her Excellency Katja Afheldt, ambassador of the European Union in the Dominican Republic, visited the Dominican Republic. Plan Sierra with the interest of knowing the mission, programs and projects executed by this entity committed to the ecological and social ordering of the middle basin of the Yaque del Norte River.

During the exchange he was introduced to the  Ambassador and her companions at the origin of Plan Sierra 43 years ago, as well as well as the trajectory traveled accompanying the territorial leadership, state institutions and families to achieve a culture of use of natural resources of water, soil, forest, biodiversity that make it possible for La Sierra to fulfill its function of provide clean water for the development of the region and the country.

The Ambassador congratulated to the directors of Plan Sierra for the work they carry out, highlighting the importance of gradually gaining the understanding of the inhabitants of the region about the importance of their participation and how they can contribute to the reorganization from the change in patterns of personal and family consumption to mitigate the impacts of climate change and protect natural resources.

The Ambassador was accompanied by Messrs. María Gonzales, Head of the Embassy’s Cooperation Section and Mr. Yves Ferreira, Head of the Regional Office for the Caribbean of the European Investment Bank (EIB).

The Ambassador was received by a Committee of the Sierra Plan Board of Directors, composed of Lester Eduardo Peralta< /strong>, Aníbal Abreu, representative of the San José Cooperative, Saul Abreu, representative of APEDI and Belky Peralta, president of the Irrigation Boards Block of the Yaque del Norte Basin, and Cristian Reyna, president of BANFONDESA, Inmaculada Adames, executive vice president, William Guzmán, director of Ecological and Social Planning and other Plan Sierra technicians.

El technical team presented The history of Plan Sierra and details of the projects in execution to date. The exchange included with a tour of forest and macadamia plantations, results of the accompaniment of the Sierra Plan.

From this visit, the interest of the Embassy of the European Union, the EIB and the BANFONDESA, to explore possibilities of joint work in the task carried out by Plan Sierra, contributing to the ordering of the most important hydrographic basin in the country.
